When it's cold outside...

 

 

Has anybody noticed that it's a bit too cold outside for the beach?  In fact, we are suddenly (it would seem) in the middle of "hot chocolate season".  Check your calendars, it is a real season! Maybe.  When the temperature drops outside, I usually find myself looking for a good book to read.  It is a lot more enjoyable to look outside the window at the frigid weather, than to actually be outside the window.  Conveniently, the library has plenty of books to choose from.  Swing by for a cold weather recommendation!

 

Turkey Time

The leaves have fallen to the ground, our Halloween costumes have been put away for another year, the nights are getting cold, and we even had our first small snowfall.  It must be nearing Thanksgiving!  There are so many great picture books about the holiday, not to mention some reading choices to learn more about the tradition. 

If you are going on a trip during the holiday, now is a great time to swing by the library and ask for a few book recommendations.  A four day weekend is the perfect time to catch up on your *must read* list. 

If you are sticking around for the weekend, remember that we will be open every day with the exception of Thanksgiving.  Please come by and say hello! 

New Toy Story special!

For all of you Toy Story fans out there, I have some great news!  This Wednesday, October 16th ABC will be airing a very special premier of Toy Story of Terror.  The Halloween special will bring back all of your friends from the Toy Story movies, including Buzz and Woody.

Fall Leaves

 



School buses are back.  Homework is back.  Teachers, recess, and all of your favorite subjects are back, as well!  While we still have a few days of summer left, it sure feels like fall is back, too!  The nights have been cooler, there are a few brown and red leaves on the ground and it certainly hasn't felt like beach weather. 

 

 

 

If you would like to read a few stories about the fall, we have plenty of those.  If you would like to learn more about what the animals do when the fall comes, or what changes take place with the trees and plants, we have plenty of choices for those topics as well.  We hope that the beginning of your school year is going well, and look forward to seeing you all the library!

It's Back to School Time

 

If you've noticed that the days are getting just a little bit shorter, the nights are getting just a little bit cooler, and the beach is getting a little bit less crowded...it can only mean one thing.  It's back to school time!

Entering a new grade, meeting new friends, and getting to know your teachers can be very exciting, but also a little nerve-wracking.  Luckily we have lots of books covering this theme.

You probably attended some of our summer programs...once the school year starts we will get rolling again with all types of crafts, reading clubs, parenting classes, movies etc...if you'd like to check out what's coming up, click here!

Dig Into It!

We've seen so many happy faces this summer!  Lots of kids have been recording their books and earning prizes in our Summer Reading Club.  Remember that it's never too late to sign up for the reading club! Swing by the library and let us know about some of your favorite summer reads!

Beaches!

It's July and beach season is officially upon us!   I hope your days are full of sand castles and sunscreen.  For inspiration, why not enjoy some fun stories about going to the beach?  Don't forget to report every book you read to gain prizes in the Summer Reading Club!

Carnival Day

Are you all  in the home stretch at school, counting the moments before the summer break arrives?  Are you looking out the window picturing fun times to be spent outdoors?  Of course, the end of the school year can only mean one thing...the Huntington Public Library annual Carnival Day is just around the corner!

Carnival Day is a blast!  You will be able to sign up for programs, including the various reading clubs, have snacks, play games and maybe even grab a few books to get started on your reading!  So if you like snacks, prizes, reading, and fun be sure to swing by the library this Friday, June 21st.  If you need help finding some great books to read, keep your eyes peeled for a librarian!
