November has been designated picture book month! While much has been written/discussed about the growing popularity of e-books/e-readers and the overall digitization of traditionally print materials, I feel strongly that there is no replacement for the experience that a well written and beatifully illustrated picture book provides. Whew! It may be easier for me to simply say that a well crafted picture book is awesome!

We have no shortage of picture books here at the library, and we love to recommend our favorites, as well as to hear about your favorites! The cooler weather tends to find us spending more time indoors, which is a perfect chance to embark on some adventures with your favorite picture book stories.

To get you started, I'll recommend one of my recent favorites! Clever Jack Takes the Cake, by Candace Fleming was a favorite last year due to its classic storytelling and amazing illustrations. It tells the tale of a poor boy named Jack who wishes to attend the birthday party of the princess, but worries about what to bring her...I will say no more. If you want to place a hold on the book, click here! Either way, feel free to visit the library and check out a few of your old favorites, or embark on a new adventure with some picture books you haven't read!
